Editing a video In this simply tutorial, we will learn to edit a video by cutting and joining different parts and by adding audio and some visual effects. Very useful to edit movies captured with the video camera or the cell phone and saved in .avi format. Click on the images below to have a bigger image.
- Firstly, in the menu File, click on New Project. Don't worry about the setting, choose Previous Settings. All can be changed in a second time...
- Move the cursor of the mouse over the bar of theTtimeline and left click to have the Selection Tool activated
- Then move the mouse pointer on the Video1 Timeline and click the right button of the mouse...
-... a menu will appair, click on Add Video File and choose a video to load...
- Now let's positioning the Video File loaded at a point of our choice, may be at the beginning of the bar, by realising the right button of the mouse...
- Now we have our video positioned on the timeline. In the same way we can add other video near the first one if we want...
- By double-clicking the left button of the mouse on the video bar, the video will appear in the Souce window on the top-left. By moving the slide bar under the Preview window, we can move in any point of the video...
- Now if we want to cut some portion of the video to edit it, we move the mouse pointer on the Scissors icon of the Timeline bar and click: we have the Scissors tool activated...
- We move on the point of the video that we want to cut and click left...
-...the video is cutted in that exact point...
- We do the same thing in another point (the final point of our portion to be cutted) and click left again. Now with the selection tool activated, right click and choose Cut from the menu: the portion of the video will be cutted and will disappear.
- Now; always with the selection tool activated, click and drag on the right portion of the cutted video and move it by laying it upon the portion of the video on the left to put some transiction effect. Otherwise, we simply put it near the portion on the left if we don't want any effect.
- To add some transiction effect to the video juncture, move the mouse pointer on the transiction effects menu on the right and choose, for example, a Fading effect...
-...then simply click and drag the effect on the joined portion of the video and left click on it...
-...the transiction effect will be applied.
- To add an audio to the video, move the selection tool of the pointer on the Audio1 bar, right click and choose Audio File; choose it and click on Open
- Then move the selected audio file on the Audio1 bar and release the mouse pointer in a position of our choice...
-...maybe at the correspondig beginning of the video file on the bar...
- Now we have to Cut the audio file to make it fit the Video lenght. So, let's use the Scissors tool to cut it...
- ..exactly as we have done before with the video file.
- Now we have to set the volume to fade out at the end of the video. To do this, left click on a point of our choice of the volume line inside the audio bar to add anothe volume point...
-...this is the point where the fade out volume will start...
-...Now left click on the end of the volume line and drag it down to fade out it.
- At this point we can save the video that we have edited, by clicking on the File menu and choose Create Video; a dialog window will appear where we can choose the filename, the path and some additional options. Remember that a good video format to choose is the Xvid coded.
- Finally, remember that if we want to have a transiction to black of the entire video, with Media Studio we have to put a black image near the end of the video bar and insert a fade transiction on the jointed portion. Good work!
